#whereHCeats: Cassalu Coffee & Kitchen

How about starting the year with something new? Yup, you read it right! It is going to be a special year because we will be searching for some of the most interesting places for travels, food trips, and new adventures. It really is the time to start discovering new things and create wonderful memories!

Our first food trip destination for 2019 is a coffee and dining place made out of love. The owners Noel and Loren started selling home-made pastries back in 2007 to some of their closest friends and relatives, and later on joined night markets and bazaars, which paved way into opening their first café in Las Piñas City; Cassalu, which is named after their children Cassandra and Lucas. Cassalu now has three branches, a take-out corner, and still continues to draw abuzz of good reviews from foodies all over the metro.

They invited us over to try out their specialties and needless to say, dining at Cassalu was such a gastronomical experience! Here’s Why:

1. Their friendly staff

We went to their Circuit Makati Branch and were greeted warmly by their staff. They constantly checked on how the food tasted and also gave us some insights on their different types of coffee. They even brewed it on the spot – which reflects a good kind of customer service they are capable of.

2. Great ambiance

If I may state it in our “millennial” term, the place is definitely “instagrammable”. Was totally blown away on how the place looked good and felt really cozy. I mean, I never wanted a wall of coloured cups badly in my life until I went there! Kudos to whoever did their interior.

3. Mouth-watering food

Not all cafés are able to pull off a good interior and great food, but Cassalu nails both. We had some of their signature dishes and it was superb! They have a lot of selection in their menu but not too much to get you confused. And their choices of dessert will leave you wanting to try everything! Sweetness overload indeed!

Actually, I did got confused – on which one to pick as my most favourite, so I’d probably say ‘all of the above’!

(Premium Beef Tapa, P238)

(Ham & Cheese Melt, P188)

(Cheesecakes on Stick, P175-195)

4. World-class coffee

For all the coffee lovers out there, you’ll definitely feel like you’re in cloud nine after hearing their selection of coffee. Yes, they have different types of coffee beans sourced from all over the world! They were generous enough to have served me their Panama Bouquet and it was one of the best freshly brewed coffee I’ve ever tried in my life.

(Specialty Coffee – Panama Boquete, P315)

5. A taste of home

And probably the best thing about them is their humble beginnings. Starting small, dreaming big, and making it happen. Cassalu, which also sounds like the Filipino term “kasalo” which means “to share or eat with” really suits them well. From the warm hospitality trait that they have instilled in their staff, to the various selection of delicacies they serve, and the wonderful dining experience they give to their customers, they really do give us a taste of home. And like what we always say, there really is no place like home.
