There is, was or will be a point in our life where we ask it to ourselves. Be it with a new role you’re about to take, or a life-changing decision you have to make. Or even when you have decided to bring your relationship to a whole new level: “Can I?”.
It was the same question that kept popping in my head as I read through some of your comments and emails asking me to write again and how much you’ve missed reading my blog. I was happy and touched but deep inside felt nervousness as I didn’t want to disappoint you guys.
If you’ve read through my bio or followed me on Instagram (@HarleyChua) you’d already know that I’m currently in the financial industry and has been there for almost four years now as of writing and I’ve been quite enjoying it as I’m continuing to learn and grow in the corporate world. Working has kept me so busy and I had to learn to keep some things I do everyday and let go of some just to keep on with life.
And now, I finally had the chance to be back and I’m more than happy to be able to write to you guys after quite some time.
During my months of hiatus from writing, I was able to focus on the real world and to myself more. I was able to test my strengths, know my weaknesses and actually did something to outperform myself and exceed my own expectations time to time.
Instead of always doubting myself, I reciprocated that doubt into a more positive energy. Instead of asking myself “Can I?”, I told myself that “I Can.” And everything seems to be better than it was. It makes sense now because people tend to think negatively of things that are new to them. We always feel reluctant to all the things we’ve never heard of and we tend to forget that one important thing in life is experience.
Experience is the best teacher, as they say. And if in the corporate world, it is one of the things that is being looked at to determine one’s competencies and skill-sets, in life, it defines something that is invaluable; something that gives life a different meaning. It defines life as a whole.
The next time you ask yourself if you can do it, always remember that you are more than your doubts. It’s time to make yourself become worthy of learning new things, making things happen and living the life that you want. Because life has the best lessons to learn from; it gives us every moment that can change our lives and its up to us whether we can or cannot do it.
Don’t be afraid to fail. Because every success stories has failures behind it. Like what MJ said during her graduation speech from ‘The Amazing Spider-man’: “What makes life valuable is that it doesn’t last forever, what makes it precious is that it ends. So don’t waste it living someone else’s life. make yours count for something. Fight for what matters to you, no matter what. Because even if you fall short, what better way is there to live?“
Can you? You can.
