We Are What We Think We Are

Whenever I hear people telling others to be like the people that they should be with lines like: “Why don’t you be like…?” or “You should follow…’s footsteps!” or even worse: “I wish you were just like…” Whenever I hear those comments coming, I simply ask myself:

Why do you have to be someone else?

That question is something that everyone else should ask themselves… In a current state of situation where everything seems to be “imitated”, from fashion to gadgets, and accessories, and trust me, even personality. Everything seems to be copied. The real question is…

In a world where you just cannot escape criticisms, is originality still important? YES, it is. You don’t have to be somebody to be someone, because you are someone who is considered original. So the next time you think that you’re such a loser for not being like that person, think again! You are lucky that you’re not.

“By being yourself, you put something wonderful in the world that was not there before.” – Edwin Elliot

We often tell ourselves that we are not perfect, that we cannot do this and that and kept on reminding ourselves that we are just incapable. Instead of telling yourself the things that you cannot do, why not focus on the things that you are good at? If you have talents, then be proud! Tell yourself how good you are at it and develop yourself more on that field.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal:it is the courage to continue that counts.”-Winston Churchill

Failing is inevitable; we all fail a couple of times and experience misery… Don’t ever let failure stop you from being who you are. What is important is how you continue on with life and use these failures as a guide to cross the right path; to do the right things. You’ll know it’s right when you feel it from yourself, the happiness and the excitement of self-development. Never be afraid to fall.

“Life isn’t about finding yourself.Life is about Creating Yourself.” – George Bernard Shaw

Do the things that will not only make you happy but also give yourself the personal growth and development that you deserve. Be unique, be the person that no one else has ever met, and be the one that will make everybody else believe that life is something that is worthy of living: living the life that you want in the most wonderful way and with the most wonderful consequences of all.

“The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.” – Walter Bagehot

Be original. Be yourself. Be true. These are just some of the ways on how to live a fruitful life. This time, forget about what others might think of you. Forget all those judgements, criticisms and comments that they make, and forget how you’ve been hurt by them. It is time for you to be what you deserve to be: happy. It’s time for you to think of who you are and who you should be.

“You don’t have to be somebody to be someone. Being true to yourself is the greatest thing you can do to be happy.” – Harley Dave Chua
