A Christmas Blog: 2011

You see, I have been preparing this blog entry for this glorious day for all of you!  Well, thank you for being a part of me through my writings and I really do hope, even in some of my little ways, was able to help you out on your everyday living. I know some would actually think of why post it on Christmas day because that means there’s only 24 hours then it’s after Christmas. Well, actually, it is certainly a fact that Filipinos celebrate one of the longest Christmas seasons in the world (usually starting from September until the 31st of January, so I know that there’s a lot of time to read this! J This is indeed my first time to create a blog on a Christmas day! So it’s a yey for me! Haha anyways, I just want you to sit back, relax and enjoy my writing as it embraces with the celebration of Christmas.

Well, through the years, People have been thinking on ways on how to celebrate a perfect Christmas. Would it have to be an enormous celebration with sophisticated food, wine and chandeliers? Would it have to be situated on a ballroom venue of a five star hotel? Or would it have to be an out-of-the-country celebration probably in Europe or other well-known countries?  We all know these things sounds marvellously outstanding, and who wouldn’t want to celebrate their Christmas that way?

A lot of people (A LOT) probably love the fact that they would be receiving valuable gifts every Christmas season. Some even considers it as a way of celebrating the Christmas, coz as what they quote: “Christmas is the season of giving”: giving all the people that you love and care about the things that they like most. Be it with gadgets, clothes, cars and even houses. Admit it, one factor that we love with Christmas season is the “gift-giving” session, and there’s really nothing wrong about it.

It’s just that, people have been too busy lately with the fast-growing advancement of everything that they think material things would bring them permanent happiness. Well, if you still believe with this, this blog is indeed a wake-up call for you. PEOPLE ARE NEVER SATISFIED: especially on material things. I guess that answers a lot of our question whenever we buy something that we like, and after a few months, we like another thing and ignore all other things that we liked yesterday.

I once tweeted in my twitter account about a year ago this quote: “Funny thing about life is that all of the things that we have right now that we are so sick and tired of are the things we’d die to have for yesterday”, and it seems it’s SO TRUE for some. Material things really cannot buy happiness or love. What it buys is a temporary coping mechanism for a “want”. A “want” that 90% of the time we don’t really need. – I am guilty of this, mind I tell you. 😛

So why am I writing this? The point is, no matter how hard you try to tell yourself that buying this thing or that thing would make you feel contented, you wouldn’t be because in the first place, you’ve already bought several things like that already or if not, you will. We always look for something better. We always try to cope up with the advancements of technology and perception of things these days.

What is Christmas without gifts? Can you really imagine celebrating Christmas without any gifts or ang pao’s for the Chinese? I guess not, right? Because Christmas has been a symbolism of “giving” to your loved ones. But I believe that the word “giving” has many many many many “pre-requisites” before being considered as acceptable.

One of which is that it has to be hard-earned. If you would be giving someone an expensive gift, make sure that the person really deserves it. With the right mind-set, or the right attitude, or if that person’s a hard-worker and has those positive traits that you think it is just justly right for them to have this gift, then by all means, give it to them. If you doubt on the capability of that person for the gift, it means you doubt that person’s personality.

Second, it has to be from your own open-hearted decision. Don’t ever buy something because you are asked to or being pushed to buy, or worse, being black-mailed. Because that circumstance itself ruins the “spirit of giving”.

Third, a gift doesn’t really have to be that expensive. You can buy a loved one an expensive thing, but not too expensive that it might make you broke. Simple gifts can mean a lot for some, if they are not materialistic though.

Through the years, a lot of “meaning” has been put to use during Christmas season. Everyone has their own opinion on what the true meaning of Christmas can be. “The true meaning of Christmas is LOVE.” While for others: “it would probably the same old: HAPPINESS, PEACE, GIVING, JOY, LAUGHTER, GOODWILL & BLESSINGS.”

Yes, all of these are correct. But there’s a lot more than that. Aside from the fact that we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we also thank him for all the joy, happiness, peace, laughter, and many more things that he gave us through the year/s. BUT, the very main fact that we thank Him, it means that we’ve received something that we are happy about. And what did we do to get these things and blessings?

We simply WORKED HARD. Yes, Christmas is indeed the perfect time to look back to our humble beginnings, to reminisce all of the vision that we had back from January, all of the plans, and goals and tasks that we plotted on our minds. For every little task that is accomplished, that is a fruit of hard work.

Recently, I tweeted again this quote about my opinion on the true meaning of Christmas: “Christmas presents are just ways of rewarding yourself for all the hard work you’ve exerted. But JOY wonders more on the spirit of accomplishments.

Accomplishment is the right word to celebrate a JOYOUS Christmas with another positive outlook on the years to come. J

Here in the country that I live in, weeks before the celebration of Christmas, a catastrophe came that killed many of the lives, hopes, & dreams of Filipinos. It was indeed a very saddening event that may discourage the spirit of Joy of the Christmas season. I personally was saddened by that unfortunate fortuitous event.

There are things that can be very hurtful in our lives. No matter how hard we try to evade them, we just can’t because these hurtful things define who we are. It define our strengths and weaknesses as a human being and as human beings, we are capable of fighting. We should fight in order to succeed and don’t let anything ruin that belief.

It was heart-breaking indeed, but the past cannot be reversed anymore. What you can do is to light up again the happiness for a better tomorrow. It may not be the same happiness that you felt before, but this happiness would surely make its way as it transcends the all the pain and suffering away, making more rooms for self-learning and healing.

The only permanent thing in this world is CHANGE.” You will never learn if you cannot accept change. And you will never grow if you’ll never learn. Life is a chain reaction. One decision can tremendously affect another. Make every little decision wise enough not to let it control you. Because if you let it, then there will come a time when you cannot make any good decisions for yourself anymore.

This may not be the happiest Christmas for some, but it still continues to shine, inspire and light up the world. “Christmas isn’t always about being happy, sometimes; it’s more of the HOPE.”

Let us always hope for the best, do our best and prepare for the best things in life: and if it doesn’t come today, always remember that it just opened an opportunity for a bigger and better tomorrow. Let us face the New Year, 2012 with a brighter hopes and dreams! Cheers! 😀

Merry Christmas and advance Happy New Year! 😀
