If there is one thing that other people thought of entrepreneurs that would be that they are just like any other businessmen. They are often thought of as the one who operates the business, but I believe entrepreneurs are more than that. For me, businessmen differ from entrepreneurs in the way of thinking.
Businessmen tend to have a business, and operate it in order to generate profit. While entrepreneurs don’t only have a business, they make one. Businessmen are satisfied with making a profit every time they operate the business, while entrepreneurs are not easily satisfied with profit. They keep on thinking some new ways on how to improve the business by means of innovating. Businessmen and entrepreneurs; they totally differ from one another.
When I was in my grade school days, I remembered how our teacher told us to write a “what I want to be when I grow up” essay. I remembered that I have written in that pad paper that I want to be a businessman. Throughout my grade school and high school life, that is what I believed what I want to be. Until college, where I was able to see clearly what the difference is, I realized that I never wanted to be a businessman, I wan’t to be different because I want my own-thought business: I want to be an entrepreneur.
Reading the One Minute Entrepreneur, it made me realize how important decisions are. Each and every one of us is the maker of our lives, and the decisions that we make are the maps. Maps that could either point us and reach the destination of success or make us lost and point us to the destination of destruction. That is how powerful a decision can be.
Now, I can actually say that I am exactly where I want to be with no hesitations. In making life decisions, you should always go straight to the point of what do you really want and do it. Because life is very tricky: you’ll never know what is going to happen next if you let yourself make the wrong decision. It can change your life forever. We should always make every decision a smart one, while we are young and have all the possible opportunities for improvements and changes for the betterment.
Whenever an opportunity arises, an entrepreneur is never afraid of catching that opportunity and turning it to something useful. Being an entrepreneur of any successful person for that matter is not just about always winning and succeeding. Sometimes, one could even encounter thousands of failures before succeeding. Why? Because failures shape the person’s attitude and values into better ones whenever failure is attained. And that development is what makes a success.
During college days, being a student is not as easy as it was when I was during my high school days, things seemed to get tougher as the days pass by and as the year level goes up. I’ve always believed that doing good in academics would result to greater things. But of course, there would always be a problem that you would encounter. And as life goes along, humans aren’t perfect. We also commit mistakes. What is important is to deal with that mistake and accept the fact that you were wrong. That is the part where we learn and grow: where we become more mature.
“It’s not who you know that counts; it’s who knows you and what they think of you” That is one of my favorite saying from the book. For me, academics are not everything that a student should have. Aside from good grades, personality matters. Attitude as what others say is the thing that makes a person look good and bad to others. If you want to be an entrepreneur, the first thing that you have to build up is yourself: your attitude and the way you interact with others.
Putting up a business is not a joke. We often thought of putting up your own kind of business as easy because all you need is the working capital. But further than that, we never realize on the expenses that are needed, the marketing strategy, the management styles needed into bringing the business into a whole new level. People tend to think of things as they could see it. If one could see how entrepreneurs put up their business, I’m sure that plenty of people who don’t have the entrepreneurial spirit would just give up easily, but not the free-spirited and entrepreneurship-oriented people.
The difference between entrepreneurs is that they picture out what would be the output of the decision that they are going to make. If you picture out success, then you succeed. Those who win are those who see themselves win. Life is like a stage. Millions of people are the viewers who are watching you. And every individual is a star. Entrepreneurs see that as an opportunity in bringing out the best in them. Letting everyone see how good and broad-minded they are. They act with their hearts out, with their passion. They are never afraid to dream big because they know that they’ll succeed. Those types of attitudes are what keeps the fire burning and those people who has it are the ones who probably succeed.
One Minute Entrepreneur totally changed my perception of things. Things that I before thought of as just ordinary and plain: I never thought that employees play an important role in keeping a company as a whole. Before, I just thought that treating your employees good only requires proper salary, prudent treatment and other than that, none anymore. But through reading this book, I’ve seen the picture of treating employees so good that you could even consider them as partners would give them this concern in the company as well that might help in establishing right service and better connections with your customers. Now, I can see the whole picture of links interconnecting you as the owner, your employees as your partners through making a good relationship with your customers.
This book also opened the importance of reading and listening. Reading plays an important role in being able to gather informations that one could never get from anything. It is through reading that knowledge is widened and deepened. I believe that through reading, one’s creativity increases which allows him to think more crucially and reason out well. Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies ever since I was a kid. I really enjoy reading a lot and even consider it as one of my past time.
Listening, on the other hand creates the ability to reflect with others. It is through listening that one could feel what the person is going through. People tend to be reactive whenever they listen with other people’s feelings. I learned that it is not a good thing. Just what Stephen Covey said in the seven habits, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” You first have to understand what the person you are talking to feels. And when you heard his side, you could now state yours. Through that, you could share your personal insights with it and resolve the problem.
Just as there are people who could be reactive, in the business world, there would be people like those of ducks. These people are the ones who act like victims in the workplace where they do everything what their boss say. Their bosses are also ducks. They don’t act like those of the eagles. Eagles are the real entrepreneurs. They have the connection with their employees and a certain bond that kept their employees from doing well with customers, making them feel happy all the time. A good owner let’s his employees soar like eagles in obtaining a good relationship and connections with its customers, providing superior and quality service.
If there is anything that a person should be after he has attained a wonderful success in his career that should be staying humble. Other successful people sees others as nothing anymore whenever they are at the top already while others doesn’t even have the time to bond with his family anymore. Their life revolves around work already. They’ve become so much focused on work that they let their family life be ruined.
“Success is not about having a successful career. It’s about having a great life” That is one big thing that I’ve learned from the book. A person, no matter how successful he can be, if he is not happy, then all of his priceless possessions and expensive items is worthless. The true meaning of living a great life is living it happily.
For all of the aspiring entrepreneurs like me, don’t rush things. Perfection is made through hard work and waiting, and not by cramming. Take every step as good as possible; decide one minute and one step at a time. And in no time, we would become successful entrepreneurs.
