College Life is said to be one of the most awaited times for a senior student’s life. As early as January, they already apply to colleges and universities that they want with the course that they are aiming to study. They tell themselves that they are ready for all the challenges that college life will bring them. They know that it is much tougher, and only the best of the best can survive.
What does it take to survive college? When I was still in my senior years, or even as early as junior years, I asked myself that question. I was afraid I might not succeed in it. Or maybe it is too tough and hard for me to adjust since I’m already used to live my life in high school. Come to think of it, I loved high school life and I thought I was not ready to let it go.
I was afraid. I was nervous. I never thought that going from high school to college would give me too much stress. The first was whether to choose what school am I gonna go with. Of course as a student, you want to choose the university that you think might best suit you. Aside from that, choosing your course is also one stressful thing. I was confused at that time where I don’t know what course am I gonna apply with. I love writing, I love arts, I want this, and I want that. There are just so many things that kept on bugging me at that moment.
I bet all senior students felt the same thing, at first. There’s just so many things that comes into our minds that even us can’t and don’t know how to solve. I asked myself several times and still can’t find the thing that could solve it.
The time has come and it’s our graduation. The moment where we should be ready to face whatever college life brings. As we tell our friends and teachers our sad goodbyes, we are overwhelmed with a great achievement of being able to surpass all the challenges that high school has brought. From all the solvings from Algebra class, experiments in Chemistry and Physics, as well as book reports in English class, we were able to get through it. No it’s time for more. As college life fast approaches, sooner or later, we would find ourselves flooded with all the Works College has brought. But this time, harder.
We tend to think that we want to apply or to study a course that we love best but forget to ask ourselves if that course would be the best for us. Finding a course is really hard. You just don’t choose a simple course; you choose the path that you are going to be in 3 or 4 or even 5 years or more from now. You just don’t choose your course because you want it; you choose it because that is where you should be in the future.
Loving the course comes when you have this passion to pursue and be successful from it. It is when you learn and able to apply it in real life. For engineers, it is being able to make people happy that they’re safe with the houses that you built. For doctors, being able to make people happy because of saving their loved-ones’ lives. And for businessman and entrepreneurs, it’s not being happy because you got richer; it’s making people happy because they have jobs, by employing them.
College is not easy as what other people say, but is not hard as well. You just have to know the ingredients needed in order for you to not only survive, but also excel in it. Always remember that college life, the experiences that you have learned from it, as well as your performance through it would surely be one of the most powerful weapon that you are going to have in order for you to climb that ladder of success.
I would love to share with all of you what those ingredients are as I personally learn it from my college days.
